About

I’m a pop culture reporter for the Oregonian newspaper in Portland, Oregon. Which is another way of saying I grew up on movies; TV; books about movies; books about TV; art-house screenings; late-night, bleary-eyed viewings of classics like “On the Waterfront” and “The Maltese Falcon”: and etc.,  etc., and so forth.  This is my blog, in which grapple with the question of what I love most: pop culture of the moment, and what it tells us about how we are and who we are; or pop culture of the past, and what it reveals about culture, commerce, life and art. You know, come to think of it, maybe I should just surrender to the fact that I’m passionate about both.
